The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the Hajj Package 2023 and Hajj Policy 2023. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar made the announcement on Twitter after chairing the ECC meeting to approve the policy. The minister agreed to provide $90 million in foreign exchange. According to the policy, the Hajj quota allocated for Pakistan for the year 2023 is 179,210 which will be divided between public and private Hajj schemes in a ratio of 50:50.

A quota of 50% of each of the public and private Hajj schemes will be earmarked for the sponsorship scheme. According to the latest notice, the country’s flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will start pre-Hajj services on June 6 and will continue till May 21. The national airline PIA will bill private Hajj pilgrims in US dollars for the first time. PIA has set a price of $1180 for private pilgrims. According to PIA, airfares for visitors from southern regions are likely to be between $870 and $1,180 and between $910 and $1,220 for northern regions. Passengers taking Executive Economy Class will be allowed 40 kg checked bag and 7 kg hand luggage. Apart from this, pilgrims traveling in economy class are allowed to carry 7 kg of hand baggage and 35 kg of checked baggage.

For the year 2023, the provisional Hajj package 2023 is Rs 1,175,000 for the northern region and Rs 1,165,000 for the southern region. Last week, Ishaq Dar met Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Mufti Abdul Shakoor and assured him of providing maximum facilities to the pilgrims to make the Hajj auspicious and peaceful.
A PIA spokesperson said that the national carrier will use Boeing 777 and Airbus A-320 for flights from various cities of Pakistan to Jeddah and Madinah during Hajj operations.
The spokesman said that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will announce the final airfare for pilgrims going on Hajj under the government scheme. According to reports, the fare is expected to be between Rs 310,000 and Rs 330,000, with the total Hajj expenditure expected to rise to Rs 1.25 million this year.
